Jade’s Law – New bill to protect children from killer parents

The Justice Secretary, Alex Chalk KC, is set to introduce new legislation aimed at enhancing the protection of children from harm. Under the proposed amendments to the Victims and Prisoners Bill, parents who are convicted of killing a partner or former partner with whom they share children will automatically have their parental responsibility suspended upon sentencing.

The primary objective of this legislation is to safeguard children by preventing individuals convicted of such crimes from exerting influence over critical aspects of their children’s lives. This includes decisions related to accessing therapeutic support, travel, or changing schools.
